Bursa is a densely populated city in the northwestern region of Turkey. It is the fourth most populous city in Turkey and one of the most industrialized metropolitan centers in the country. Bursa was the first capital of the Ottoman State between 1326 and 1365
Due to its historic and cosmopolitan structure, Bursa preserved its strategic role along the history. It is famous with its old houses, Hacivat & Karagoz (traditional shadow play of Ottoman), silk and its cuisine.
Hacivat & Karagoz: Karagöz (meaning blackeye in Turkish) and Hacivat ( shortened in time from "Hacı Ivaz" meaning "İvaz the Pilgrim", and also sometimes written as Hacivad) are the lead characters of the traditional Turkish Shadow play, popularized during the Ottoman period. The central theme of the plays are the contrasting interaction between the two main characters Karagöz-Hacivat plays are especially associated with Ramadan. Until the rise of radio and film, it was one of the most popular forms of entertainment in Turkey. We have included this famous play into our concept via special cariographic designs made of oax leather by a famous artists from Turkey
Old Bursa Houses: Bursa is famous with its beautiful old houses. In Sultan Baba we tried to create an atmosphere which will make our customers feel as if they were sitting in an old Bursa street with old Bursa houses.
Bursa and Silk: During the Ottoman days, Bursa was the center of silk trade. Silk fabrics are still a very famous product of Bursa. We included tabloids made of silk into our concept in order to have a small touch to this famous product. You can see those original tabloids on the walls of our restaurant which reflect the Ottoman traditions of Bursa.
